Teaching & Learning Strategies: The learning outcomes detailed above will be achieved through the following teaching methodologies: • Lectures - communication of knowledge and ideas from the lecturer to the student. • Problem Solving Exercises – students will work as part of a team and will work together to resolve problems. • Class Discussion/Debate - Students will be encouraged to actively participate in the class sessions which will develop their analytical and communication skills. • E-Learning – It is envisaged that the module will be supported with on-line learning materials. • Role play activities –Active participation in problem solving scenarios. • Peer facilitation- Active engagement in the key components of group facilitation.
Module Aim: The aim of this module is to give students an understanding of methods and skills relevant to group work with diverse populations. Introduce students to interpersonal concepts in group work. Enhance facilitation skills and assist learners in developing facilitation strategies in their own work. Give students an understanding of organising creative pursuits with client groups.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to:
LO1 Define the dynamics of interpersonal interaction of groups.
LO2 Understand the various problems of the individuals involved in group interaction.
LO3 Identify, articulate own feeling in order to become more responsible for personal skills as a group facilitator and group member.
LO4 Plan group sessions based upon an analysis of the group’s needs.
LO5 Identify and practice methods of dealing with others that promotes team cooperation and communication.
LO6 Demonstrate an understanding of the creative person, the creative process and techniques for enhancing creative function.
LO7 Develop skills in creative thinking (sensitivity to problems, flexibility, originality).
LO8 Elaborate through visual and verbal exercises
