Teaching & Learning Strategies: Spanning a period of not less than 16 weeks, the learner will gain relevant experience in a variety of aspects of a brewing and/or distilling industry. A wide range of scientific, engineering and business skills and techniques, procedures and processes will be experienced, developed and applied during the placement. In advance of the placement learners will undertake 5 hours of work placement preparation classes. Transferable life skills including team working, communication, time management and self-reflection will also be enhanced and learners will record and review their experience via a work place journal which will form part of their final work placement report. This report will be validated by the on-site work placement mentor who will also work with the learner to ensure that skills and experiences are being obtained. The work placement mentor will receive a guide to work placement in advance detailing their responsibilities as well as those of the learner and of IT Carlow and will liaise with the work placement co-ordinator both in preparation for and during the work placement period. Learners will communicate their experience to their peers in an oral presentation on completion of the work placement. Where a work placement cannot be facilitated an industry focused research project will be carried out by the learner.
