Stage 1

Elective Regulation
In order to progress to Stage 2, learners must have 80% attendance, and a mark of not less than 40%, in the module Preparation for Professional Practice.

Stage 2

Elective Regulation
Block Supervised Professional Practice 1 of 400 hours must be completed. In order to progress to Stage 3, learners must have 80% attendance in the preparatory practice workshops, and a mark of not less than 40% in the module Supervised Professional Practice 1. Learners who fail the work placement element of the Supervised Professional Practice module shall be provided with one repeat opportunity in the next academic year, where IT Carlow is satisfied with the learner’s fitness and preparedness to practice. Students may EXIT at this stage of the programme with a Higher Certificate in Arts in Applied Social Studies (Embedded Exit Award), provided they have achieved the required level 6 learning outcomes. Stage 3

Elective Regulation
Block Supervised Professional Practice 2 of 400 hours must be completed. In order to be eligible for the Award Stage, learners must have 80% attendance in the preparatory placement workshops and a mar of not less than 40% for the module Supervised Professional Practice 2. Learners who fail the work placement element of the Supervised Professional Practice module shall be provided with one repeat opportunity in the next academic year, where IT Carlow is satisfied with the learner’s fitness and preparedness to practice. Learners must also have completed 500 hours placement over the course of their programme of study. Students may EXIT at this stage of the programme with a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Social Studies (Professional Social Care)(Embedded Exit Award), provided they have achieved the required level 7 learning outcomes.
