Teaching & Learning Strategies: The learning outcomes detailed above will be achieved through the following teaching methodologies: • Lectures - communication of knowledge and ideas from the lecturer to the student. • Problem Solving Exercises – students will work as part of a team and will work together to resolve various social care scenarios. • Class Discussion/Debate - Students will be encouraged to actively participate in the class sessions which will develop their analytical and communication skills. • E-Learning – It is envisaged that the module will be supported with on-line learning materials. • Self-Directed Independent Learning – the emphasis on independent learning will develop a strong and autonomous work and learning practices.
Module Aim: The aim of this subject is to: 1. Provide students with additional experience in the social care field 2. Provide opportunity for on-going professional development as highlighted during supervised professional practice 2 3. Expand student’s ability to use ‘self’ in social care practice 4. Provide student with an understanding of Person Centred Practice with individual outcomes underpinned by the strengths based perspective 5. Engage student in expanding their reflective practice in a dynamic environment 6. To expand students theoretical knowledge and application of therapeutic interventions 7. Help students use self to enable clients affect change in their own life 8. Continue to promote the self-development of student’s personal awareness and critiquing skills which will assist reflective practice 9. Prepare students for professional employment
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to:
LO1 Use the Professional Development Plan devised from 2nd year supervised professional practice to identify areas of personalised practice learning: a)Knowledge for practice, b) Professional intervention skills and c) Professional development (identity and role).
LO2 Outline the placement service: its mission statement; & evaluate the role of the placement service in the lives of clients; demonstrate an ability to situate the agency within the overall structure of the Health/Education/Justice systems; identify and discuss the legislation/social policies that regulate or guide practice in the sector to which the agency belongs; comment how these social policies are reflected in agency policy; identify and discuss current issues relevant to the sector - both from a national and international perspective.
LO3 Outline practice engaged in during placement using the evidence based practice model
LO4 Discuss how they engaged in diversity sensitive/anti-discriminatory practice while on placement, and how these are embedded concepts of emancipatory practice.
LO5 Critically reflect on: a) practice philosophy of the agency b) how the person centred plan developed while on placement empowered a service user c) evaluate the effectiveness of their placement self-care plan d) their engagement in supervision on placement e) their performance in the triadic meeting f) outline cpd plan with target
