Module Aim: |
The aims of the module are: (1) to provide students with a knowledge of the techniques, methods and practices used in the construction of buildings; (2) To introduce students to the concept of sustainable building. To provide an awareness and understanding of the functions and requirements for external, internal works and roofs. 3. To create an understanding of superstructure and the performance requirements of framed buildings, external envelope & elements within the internal environment. 4. To provide an understanding of materials, properties, junctions and their interaction with modern construction techniques |

to describe and illustrate how the walls, roofs and ground floors of buildings are constructed and how the internal space in buildings is divided by partitions and floors |

Practical Scale Work
(a) Building practice: setting out shallow/ deep strip foundations, masonry walling, roofs and floors. (b) Materials handling and storage (c) Site safety. (d) Site visit to housing site (e) Freehand Sketching Section through external wall and roof Fireplace details. Window and door schedule. Stair details Roof details.
