A combination of tutorials, practicals and projects will be used to assess this module.
Particular emphasis will be placed on active learning, with a focus on project-based assessment.
Students will work in groups and individually in carrying out practical assignments.
Module Aim:
The aim of this course is to give students a practical introduction to the production process. Beginning with digital photography, students will move towards capturing moving images and video editing.
'Introduction to Video Production' will provide students with a strong foundation in professional video production workflows and technical skills. It will focus heavily on video post-production skills, providing a strong foundation in industry-standard software.

On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to:

Indicative Content
Creative Digital Photography
Students will be taught creative digital photography techniques. On completion, they will understand the elements of exposure - ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed. Through continual assessment, students will exhibit their creativity and understanding of these elements in creative photographic exercises.
Editing Skills - Post production techniques.
Upon completion, students will understand the fundamental skills in editing. They will be able to:
Set up projects -

Splice in / overwrite onto timeline -
Work with media on the timeline -
Create basic titles -
Understand basic transitions and effects -
Basic Export settings.
Practical Video Production
Students will understand the basic functions of a video camera and learn to achieve balanced exposure. This module will examine the concepts of image composition and basic camera movements and set-ups.

Each student will be required to complete a number of group assignments as part of the assessment of this module.
Continual Assessments will be designed to develop skills in all areas of video production.
Assignments will be planned during class time, but may be completed outside of college hours. Each student will be expected to participate fully in all classes and location shoots and to contribute significantly to their group.
