Module Aim: The aim of this module is to provide the student with the practical skills and editorial knowledge involved in the processes and execution of radio programming.

On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to:
LO1 Understand the technical, editorial and theoretical skills involved in radio studio operations.
LO2 Determine how creative, technical and administrative skills combine to produce radio programmes.
LO3 Identify the importance of ethical standards and codes of practice in the development and the execution of radio programmes.

Module Content & Assessment

Indicative Content
Content
Students will learn the concepts, procedures and technical skills required to produce radio studio programming and content. Through hands-on practical workshops, listening sessions, demonstrations and tutorials, students will develop the basic technical skills necessary to operate and master broadcast equipment in the studio environment. Production work is a group activity and students will be expected to achieve a solid grounding in both editorial and technical areas. During this module, the student will: • Analyse and apply knowledge to a wide range of radio content. • Apply know-how and practice in the art of writing and designing content for radio. • Understand the importance of ethics, objectivity, impartiality, fairness and codes of practice. • Identify and assume the roles of producer and studio personnel/crew. • Conceive, formulate and experiment with ideas and experience the processes of communicating messages using aural codes in radio production. • Competently and safely operate equipment in the studio environment. • Work competently and coherently as a production group. • Prepare, compile and produce comprehensive production files of their work. • Execute pre-recorded and ‘As-Live’ radio programmes of specified content and duration for a clearly identified demographic. • Assess the processes, the completed production/content/transmission and their role within through reflective, critical analysis.
