Teaching & Learning Strategies: The learner engages project planning and design management process through an applied studio-based learning pedagogy. Teaching & learning strategies supports the learner gain a practical understanding and application of the principles and tools necessary, through: • tutorials, • facilitated seminars, • facilitated peer-to-peer learning, critique/review, • e-learning, • presentation, • self-directed independent learning.
Module Aim: The aim of the module is to enable final year undergraduate learners engage the knowledge, skill, attitudes and behaviours to prepare a comprehensive project management plan, implement the plan and manage outcomes to successfully deliver a product design innovation project. Content delivery is aligned to the Product Design Innovation module.

On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to:

Define project, project management, environment, roles & relationships. Define project life-cycle, phases, processes & management interactions.
Initiation
Project goals/objectives/targets, project scope & planning assumptions. Project team, resource assessment, stakeholder & organisation assessment. Project governance & communication strategy, authorisation of scope-change, quality framework, control & review review proceedure. Macro/micro environment & SWOT analysis.
Planning
Work Breakdown Structure (tasks, dependencies/resources, sequence, estimates); Critical Path (high-level time-line scheduling); Gantt Chart (gantt planning & milestones, risk assessment and risk mitigation).
Execution
Documentation Protocol (design process).
Monitoring & Control
Quality compliance to quality framework
Termination
Report formatting, formal & technical language, notation and referencing. Summarisation techniques for recommendation & reporting.
