Teaching & Learning Strategies: The learning outcomes detailed above will be achieved through the following teaching methodologies: • Lectures - communication of knowledge and ideas from the lecturer to the student. • Problem Solving Exercises/Case Studies – students will work as part of a team and will work together to discuss and evaluate scenarios related to lecture content. • Class Discussion/Debate - Students will be encouraged to actively participate in the class sessions which will develop their analytical and communication skills. • E-Learning – It is envisaged that the module will be supported with on-line learning materials including discussion boards. • Self-Directed Independent Learning – the emphasis on independent learning will develop a strong and autonomous work and learning practices.
Module Aim: The aim of this module is to develop students’ understanding of theories of social and cognitive psychology and its application to social and community care settings particularly in relation to human development.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to:
LO1 Apply the processes of cognitive development in a social context, looking at how the individual operates in society.
LO2 Describe and evaluate theories of cognitive development.
LO3 Explain and evaluate theories of memory and their application to practice.
LO4 Discuss and evaluate theories of social psychology and their application to practice.
LO5 Explain how the individual interacts with society and community and how this impacts on individual functioning and development.
LO6 Reflect on the influence of the group on individual behavior.
LO7 Evaluate theories of social relationships and its application in social/community settings.
