Module Aim: The aim of this module is to develop the principles of coaching and the process of coaching at level 2 of the FAI Coaching ladder UEFA B. Enabling the students to plan and deliver coaching sessions for senior level players and analyse and assess their own performance as a coach
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to:
LO1 Plan and implement a structured coaching session for senior level players (18+) that demonstarte an understanding of the underpinning coaching theory for this age and level of player
LO2 Design, implement and assess practices appropriate to age of players and identify areas for technical and tactical improvement for individuals and team within practices, SSGs, phases of play
LO3 Plan and design season long coaching plans and session planners and analyse own coaching performance throughout.
LO4 Implement appropriate intervention strategy through demonstration and explanation in coaching practices through the Q + A technique.
LO5 Follow best practice guidelines when dealing with children in accordance with Irish Sports Council Code of Ethics.
LO6 Conduct video analysis on a group of matches and recommend areas of improvement for the team and individuals.

Indicative Content
1. UEFA B- – 120 hrs (100% attendance on course curriculum required) (Students must have completed and passed the FAI Level 1 Coaching course)
• Identify stages in the development of young and senior players in this phase of the Long Term Player Development Pathway. • Plan, organise and implement linked coaching sessions to improve team performance from assessing individuals and the team in match(s) and match situations. • Develop tactical and positional skills as well as team performance • Develop soccer specific conditioning and strength training • Optimise fitness and soccer preparation for performance • Plan, implement and review sessions in a fun, safe and friendly environment • Understanding of medical and injury issues at this level
2. Video Analysis
• Recording Techniques • Importing to digital video analysis system • Coding/Analysis of games • Presentations to Squads/Players/Managers
3. Coaching Experience
• Placement 1: Twenty week coaching block with a selected team. - Goal Setting - Season Plan - Session plans and blocks - Analysing and assessing performance (team and individuals) • Additional Placements: Disability Groups, Carlow LSP etc.
4. Coach Development Workshops
Discuss current trends in coaching, coach education and developing players at this age group and level
5. FAI Seminars
Full attendance to FAI Seminars with the aim of educating students about the range of roles and responsibilities of the FAI: Introduction to football, facilities development, match day management, competition management, player development plan, communication and use of social media, international team and logistics & business partnerships and commercia activities
