Lectures - communication of knowledge and ideas from the lecturer to the learner
Problem Solving Exercises - learners will work as part of a team and will work together to resolve various legal scenarios.
Class Discussion/Debate - Learners will be encouraged to actively participate in the class sessions which will develop their analytical and communication skills.
E-Learning - It is envisaged that the module will be supported with on-line learning materials.
Self-Directed Independent Learning - the emphasis on independent learning will develop a strong and autonomous work and learning practices.
Module Aim:
The aim of this module is to introduce learners to the Irish Legal System. Learners will be introduced to a range of legal topics, giving them a basis on which to develop their legal knowledge. This module will establish a framework within which the learner can appreciate the relevance of the various law subjects they will study during their course.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to:

Discuss the main sources of Irish law and appreciate their relative importance
LO2
Identify the various divisions within the law.
LO3
Differentiate between the functions of the various members of the legal profession and discuss reform in the area.
LO4
Discuss the various alternative dispute resolution mechanisms that exist within the Irish Legal System
