There will be a combination of tutorials, demonstrations, screenings, practical workshops, production exercises and group discussion/critiques. Students will enhance their skills through theoretical lectures, project based learning, and analysis of their practical work. There will be a stronger focus on visual storytelling and the conceptual methods involved in cinematography. |
Module Aim: |
An advancement of the skills and knowledge acquired in Single Camera Video Production, this module will develop the students understanding of cinematography. In post production, students technical abilities and capacity to visualise and construct narratives in the edit room will be enhanced. Abilities in preproduction will be advanced through group work on projects. |

On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to: |
LO1 |
Advanced skills in cinematography, audio production, and post production, as demonstrated through both individual and team work in the creation of higher quality video productions. |
LO2 |
The ability to understand deeper concepts regarding the thought processes behind cinematography and then critically assess various productions based on these theories. |
LO3 |
Ability to do reconnaissance work, risk assessments, and map out locations with a view to develop a shooting, lighting, and audio plan that will best suit the production at hand. |
LO4 |
Ability to edit together a coherent production that includes extra media from different sources such as still images and graphics. |
LO5 |
Critically evaluate their own media roles and skills in the wider context of production via personal evaluation, project presentation, and screenings. |

Cinemtography
Building on the skills learned in Single Camera Video Production this module will delve deeper into the concepts and theories that deal separates cinematography from standard camera operation.

Postproduction
This is an advancement of the technical skills and knowhow regarding editing software. The students will get a greater understanding of what it is to build a specific sequence of shots to convey a certain meaning to the audience.

Pre-production
Productions will be shot off-campus with outsourced actors, meaning there will be a strong need for higher pre-production skills. Locations need to be secured, talent screen tested, risk assessments completed etc.

Audio Production
An advanced ability to record dialogue, atmospheric audio, and foley in order to mix together a more professional soundscape.

Critical Evaluation
Students cognitively learn from assessing their productions and their role within through reflective, critical analysis. Learning outcomes must be discussed and an awareness of what should be done in future will be flagged by students.

Groups will be required to produce video content for a specified audience that display various skills in cinematography and post production. Abilities in preproduction will be advanced and a production folder will be submitted containing all the relevant paperwork. They will also learn through reflective critical evaluation of their own role and the production as a whole. As directed by the lecturer, the students may submit this as paperwork or deliver it in presentation format. |
