Stage 1 / 60 ECTS / Semester 1

Elective Regulation Learners must have at least 80% attendance and mark of 40% in the module “Professional Social Care Theory and Practice” in order to be eligible to go on placement and proceed to stage 2. Learners must have at least 80% attendance and mark of 40% in all modules to be eligible to go on placement and proceed to stage 2. Following the final Examination Board’s decision that any learner who does not pass a module as a result of not meeting the mandatory attendance requirement, must repeat and attend that module in the next academic year. Learners who do not pass a module due to not meeting the 40% pass mark will be provided with one repeat opportunity in the next examination session. Learners who do not pass following this repeat opportunity, must repeat and attend that module in the next academic year. Learners are not permitted to carry any module into the next academic year. Save for these special regulations, Institute Academic Regulations apply. |

Stage 1 / 60 ECTS / Semester 2

Elective Regulation Learners may EXIT at this stage of the programme with a Level 6 Minor Award, Certificate in Introduction to Social Studies (Embedded Exit Award), provided they have achieved the required learning outcomes and have accumulated 60 credits. Learners must have at least 80% attendance and mark of 40% in the module “Professional Social Care Practice (Contexts, Models and Legal System)” in order to be eligible to go on placement and proceed to stage 2. Students must have at least 80% attendance and mark of 40% in all modules to be eligible to go on placement and proceed to stage 2. Following the final Examination Board’s decision that any learner who does not pass a module as a result of not meeting the mandatory attendance requirement, must repeat and attend that module in the next academic year. Learners who do not pass a module due to not meeting the 40% pass mark will be provided with one repeat opportunity in the next examination session. Stage 2 / 60 ECTS / Semester 1

Elective Regulation A block placement of 12 weeks of 400 hours must be completed. In order to be eligible to go on placement, learners must have 80% attendance in the preparatory practice workshops. Learners who fail the work placement element of either the Supervised Professional Practice 1 or Supervised Professional Practice 2 modules shall be provided with one repeat opportunity only across the programme and this repeat opportunity will be only be permitted in circumstances where IT Carlow is satisfied with the learner’s preparedness to practice. Stage 2 / 60 ECTS / Semester 2

Elective Regulation Learners must have at least 80% attendance and a mark of 40% in all modules to pass that module and proceed to stage 3. Students may EXIT at this stage of the programme with a Higher Certificate in Arts in Applied Social Studies (Embedded Exit Award), provided they have achieved the required level 6 learning outcomes and achieved 120 credits. Following the final Examination Board’s decision that any learner who does not pass a module as a result of not meeting the mandatory attendance requirement, must repeat and attend that module in the next academic year. Learners who do not pass a module due to not meeting the 40% pass mark will be provided with one repeat opportunity in the next examination session. Learners who do not pass following this repeat opportunity, must repeat and attend that module in the next academic year. Learners are not permitted to carry any module into the next academic year. Stage 3 / 60 ECTS / Semester 1

Stage 3 / 60 ECTS / Semester 2

Elective Regulation A block placement of 12 weeks of 400 hours must be completed. In order to be eligible to go on placement, learners must have 80% attendance in the preparatory practice workshops. In line with the provision of year-long module (within both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes) of at least 10 credits, Supervised Professional Practice 2 module will be assessed upon completion of semester 2 but workshops will take place in semester 1. Learners who fail the work placement element of either the Supervised Professional Practice 1 or Supervised Professional Practice 2 modules shall be provided with one repeat opportunity only across the programme and this repeat opportunity will be only be permitted in circumstances where IT Carlow is satisfied with the learner’s preparedness to practice. Learners must also have completed at least 800 hours placement over the course of their programme of study to receive their award. Learners may EXIT at this stage of the programme with a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Social Care Practice (Embedded Exit Award), provided they have achieved the required level 7 learning outcomes and accumulated 180 credits. Stage 4 / 60 ECTS / Semester 1

Elective Regulation Learners must have at least 80% attendance and a mark of 40% in all modules to pass that module. Following the final Examination Board’s decision that any learner who does not pass a module as a result of not meeting the mandatory attendance requirement, must repeat and attend that module in the next academic year. Learners who do not pass a module due to not meeting the 40% pass mark will be provided with one repeat opportunity in the next examination period. Stage 4 / 60 ECTS / Semester 2

Elective Regulation Each learner will be allocated a supervisor for their research thesis. In line with the provision of year-long research projects (within both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes) of at least 10 credits, the dissertation will be submitted upon completion of semester 2 but research teaching classes will continue over the academic year. Learners must have at least 80% attendance and a mark of 40% in all modules to pass that module. Following the final Examinations Board’s decision that any learner who does not pass a module as a result of not meeting the mandatory attendance requirement, must repeat and attend that module in the next academic year. Learners who do not pass a module due to not meeting the 40% pass mark will be provided with one repeat opportunity in the next examination period.
