Teaching & Learning Strategies: • Studio-based project & problem-based learning to develop the learners’ problem- solving methodology to an advanced level, in an architectural technology context, with one-to-one reviews/tutorials and group/class ‘crits’ to provide student feedback • Group/team work utilized as appropriate
Module Aim: • To provide learners with opportunities to apply & integrate knowledge gained in the other modules • To assist learners in developing a comprehensive knowledge of the building fabric for commercial & framed/clad buildings • To continue to introduce learners, through site visits & invited speakers, to leading edge issues in contemporary architectural technology • To bring to a high level and confirm amongst learners the necessary approach for a technical architectural designer, including consideration and synthesis of construction, legislative, environmental and sustainability issues and to ensure that this approach is consistently applied through research & brief analysis, consideration of options and clear presentation of preferred solutions • To prepare learners for working life and/or further study and to bring to a high level and confirm amongst learners working methods that encourage lifelong learning & development
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to:
LO1 • Research & apply case studies and the latest construction & building services strategies to provide a low environmental impact building, employing appropriate materials, systems & strategies in a holistic manner, including documenting this research in a Technical Report
LO2 • Prepare detailed design proposals to apply and assess compliance with the Building Regulations, particularly Parts B, K, L, & M
LO3 • Prepare & present architectural technology work with a high level of graphical, verbal & written communication skills, both manual & software based
