Teaching & Learning Strategies: The key teaching & learning strategy is Integration with Studio 2 projects; this includes a combination of Lectures covering the Legislation (TGD) requirements, typical solutions and case studies, as well as Tutorials around relevant application to Studio 2 projects; along with Projects & Assignments to allow application of Legislation & Practice theory with formative feedback. - Lectures - Tutorials - Project - Assignments
Module Aim: The aims of this module are : • To familiarise students with the implications of the Building Control Act and the Building Regulations, so that they can incorporate these requirements into Studio 2 projects and demonstrate compliance. • To familiarise students with’ legal minimum’ and ‘best practice’ approaches to their Studio 2 projects • To familiarise learners with the Planning and Development Control processes and relevant legislation • To introduce learners to the process initiated by SI 9/BC(A)R 2014, and other relevant legislation
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to:
LO1 Apply the Building Regulations to a small or medium scale timber construction project
LO2 Undertake a DAC/Accessiblity audit of an existing building
LO3 Demonstrate familiarity with the BC(A)R Building Control process
LO4 Demonstrate familiarity with the Planning process and prepare documentation for a basic Planning Application for a small to medium scale construction project

The Building Control Processes, as established under current legislation, e.g. SI 9/BC(A)R 2014, and with reference to Disability Access Certificate applications and Dwelling Energy Assessment Procedure analysis. The Planning & Development Control processes, including Planning Applications and Exempted Development
