Teaching & Learning Strategies: This module will be taught by Lectures and Tutorials by using standard aircraft manuals, approved aviation materials and up-to-date legislation documents.
Module Aim: The student will understand specific aircraft legislation documentation and how they affect and control all aspects of aircraft operations and maintenance engineering.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to:
LO1 Explain the regulatory framework of (Inter)national authorities and the relationships between them
LO2 Understand the requirements for the design/production and certification of aircraft, parts and appliances
LO3 Understand the requirements of Part-66, 145 and Part-M and their application to the continued airworthiness/maintenance of aircraft
LO4 Understand the requirements of Part-66, 145 and 147 and their application to certifying staff
LO5 Describe the documentation required for continued aircraft operation and certification under EU-OPS & Part-M, Subpart G

 Role of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO); Role of the European Commission; Role of EASA; Role of the Member States and National Aviation Authorities; Regulation (EC) No 216/2008 and its implementing rules Regulations (EC) No 748/2012 and (EC) No 1321/2014  Relationship between EU-OPS, PArt-21, Part-145, Part-66, Part-147 and Part-M and Regulation (EU) No 965/2012
Certifying Staff - Maintenance
Detailed understanding of Part-66.
Approved Maintenance Organisations
Detailed understanding of Part-145 and part-M Subpart F
Air Operations
General understanding of Regulation (EU) No 965/2012 Air Operators Certificates; Operators Responsibilities, in particular regarding continuing airworthiness and maintenance; Aircraft Maintenance Programme; MEL//CDL Documents to be Carried; Aircraft Placarding (Markings);
Certification of aircraft, parts and appliances
 General understanding of Part-21 and EASA certification specifications CS-23, 25, 27, 29.  Documents. Certificate of Airworthiness; restricted certificates of airworthiness and permit to fly Certificate of Registration; Noise Certificate; Weight Schedule; Radio Station License and Approval
Continuing Airworthiness
 Detailed understanding of Part-21 provisions related to continuing airworthiness  Detailed understanding of Part-M
Applicable National and International Requirements for (if not superseded by EU requirements)
Maintenance Programmes, Maintenance checks and inspections; Master Minimum Equipment Lists, Minimum Equipment List, Dispatch Deviation Lists; Airworthiness Directives; Service Bulletins, manufacturers service information; Modifications and repairs; Maintenance documentation: maintenance manuals, structural repair manual, illustrated parts catalogue, etc.; Continuing airworthiness; Test flights; ETOPS, maintenance and dispatch requirements; All Weather Operations, Category 2/3 operations and minimum equipment requirements.
