Lectures - communication of knowledge and ideas from the lecturer to the student.
Problem Solving Exercises - student will work as part of a team and will work together to resolve various legal scenarios.
Class Discussion/Debate - Students will be encouraged to actively participate in the class sessions which will develop their analytical and communication skills.
E-Learning - It is envisaged that the module will be supported with on-line learning materials.
Self-Direct Independent Learning - the emphasis on independent learning will develop a strong and autonomous work and learning practices. |
Module Aim: |
The aim of this module is to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to the Irish legal system and a sound working knowledge of aspects of contract law, tort law and company law. |
Learning Outcomes |
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to: |

Demonstrate a sound understanding of the basic structure of the Irish legal system, sources of law and the structure of government |

Describe and explain the fundamental principes of contract law, sale of goods law, and tort law |
LO3 |
Describe and explain the main principles of company law |
LO4 |
Identify and distinguish between the various branches of commercial law, and demonstrate a clear understand of the salient features of each |

Apply theoretical knowledge to common problem scenarios to produce reasoned solutions |
LO6 |
Access and utilise both paper and electronic sources of legal information for research pruposes |
LO7 |
Evaluate the efficacy of legal rules and identify possible reforms |
