Teaching & Learning Strategies:
The key teaching & learning strategy is Integration with TD&D II projects; this includes a combination of Lectures covering the Legislation (TGD) requirements, typical solutions and case studies, as well as Tutorials around relevant application to TD&D II projects; along with Projects & Assignments to allow application of Legislation & Practice theory with formative feedback.

Module Aim:
The aims of this module are :
• To familiarise students with the implications of the Building Control Act and the Building Regulations, so that they can incorporate these requirements into TD&D II projects and demonstrate compliance.
• To familiarise students with’ legal minimum’ and ‘best practice’ approaches to their TD&D II projects
• To familiarise learners with the Planning and Development Control processes and relevant legislation
• To familiarize learners with the Project Team and the role and responsibilities of the Architectural Technologist, with reference to the RIAI Knowledge, Skill and Competence for Practice as an Architectural Technologists 2010 and the CIAT Code of Conduct
• To introduce learners to the process initiated by SI 9/BC(A)R 2014, and other relevant legislation
• To introduce learners to the construction procurement process, including alternative construction procurement methods; and to construction costing.
• To familiarise learners with the organization and structure of construction project meetings
• To introduce Specification and its role
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to:

• To apply the Building Regulations to small or medium scale construction projects;
LO2
• To explain the implications of the Building Regulations for site layout, building layout and building details; as applied to domestic and other building types
LO3
• Prepare documentation for a Planning Permission Application and a DAC Application for a small to medium scale construction project
LO4
• Prepare documentation for a basic Planning Permission Application
LO5
• Understand the role and responsibilities of the Architectural Technologist as a member of the Construction Project Team, as required under current legislation and professional standards
LO6
• Understand basic construction procurement methods and how to provide documentation for costing them (including a simple Specification document)

Overview
The Building Control Act & Regulations and the
Technical Guidance Documents, both in general and as they apply to TD&D II studio projects.
The Building Control Processes, as established under current legislation, e.g. SI 9/BC(A)R 2014, and with reference to Disability Access Certificate applications and Dwelling Energy Assessment Procedure analysis.
The Planning & Development Control processes, including Planning Applications and Exempted Development
The Construction Procurement process; alternative
construction procurement methods and simple specification
writing.
The role and responsibilities of the Architectural Technologist,
with reference to the RIAI Knowledge, Skill and Competence for
Practice as an Architectural Technologists 2010 and the CIAT
Code of Conduct
The Construction Project Team, including organization and
