Teaching & Learning Strategies: Lectures / Tutorials / Practicals/ Group Crits / Group Discussion / Student Presentations including presentations to an external examiner. There are no site projects in the award year rather the student decides on a plan of work that articulates the primary concerns of their art practice with the tutorial staff and this is signed off by both parties. The learning strategy is characterized as “learning through doing” in that the student is guided and supported through the process of skills acquisition and creative conceptualization both as individual students and as a class. Students are expected to display a high degree of self motivation and organization in the pursuit of the objectives of the learning plan. The majority of learning will take place in the student’s individual studio. The project tutor will flag assessment priorities throughout the development of the year, an emphasis on experimentation, innovation and problem solving is a notable feature of this year. There will also be an opportunity for the visiting lecture programme to participate in the delivery of this subject.
Module Aim: To equip the student with the necessary skills and conceptual awareness to research and execute works in a fully professional manner; To deepen a self-reliant work ethic; To apply theory critically; to analyse professional experience; to work independently and as part of a team if required; give emphasis to the importance of a self-reflective form of critical engagement and to develop self-assessment skills; to encourage a sophisticated individual and personalized approach to the realisation of work; To embed the practice of experimentation and pushing the boundaries of the realisation of work; To impart the importance of learning from mistakes in the creative process; To create a major exhibition of the student’s work in a fully professional context.
