Module Aim: This module is designed to assist and enhance the students understanding and awareness of their responsibilities for the security of locations, equipment and personnel when operating in an aviation operational environment.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to:
LO1 Describe the legislation pertaining to the safe management of security incidents
LO2 Discuss the various levels of security management and the responsibility for each level within their organisation
LO3 Outline the difference between and the advantages/disadvantages of standard operational procedures and standard operational guidelines
LO4 Explain the principles of the Incident Command System (ICS) and the key features that support its effective implementation

Role of IAA and Dept of transport, tourism & sport, statutory instruments, authority and role of national inspectors, EU commission regulations, role of operators (airdromes, airlines, consignors), airport directives, annex 14, IOSA standards for security, UN Resolution 2309 (2016)
Security Management Structure
Responsibilities and accountability of operator (Aerodrome and Airline and Consignors): flight ops and flight dispatchers responsibilities, boundaries and access control, use of technology, screening of passengers and baggage, cargo aircraft management, regulated agent and known consignors, air carrier operations, aircraft security
Systemic Security Management
Inspecting an entity or receiving an inspection, staff and physical security, security manager, security programme, security documentation and records system, internal quality assurance control/review system, security training programmes including basic security awareness training (BSAT), reporting processes for acts of unlawful interference
Operational Risk Management
Generic Risk Threat Assessments: types of threats, exploiting aviation security weaknesses, risk analysis of possible threats Procedure: security management systems (SeMS), standard operating procedures, standard operating guidelines, communications resources Incident command system: Tactical Mode, Span of Control, implementing procedures
