Module Aim:
The purpose of this module is to provide the learner with a knowledge of the history and also the practice of planning in Ireland. The course will examine the history and development of urban & rural planning in the international & Irish context. Learners will be also be engaged with the technical processes of planning, planning appeals, heritage and development plans. Students will learn how to engage and interact with the Irish planning system.
On successful completion of the module a student will be able to analyse and engage with the planning process in Ireland. Students will be introduced to and provide critical analysis of the concepts of conservation in relation to the built environment & the landscape. Learners will be able to prepare professional standard reports & present in a professional manner to their peers and other professionals.

Demonstrate and explain the history of urban & rural planning in an international context.

Explain and apply the history & technical aspects of urban & rural planning in Ireland since the introduction of the Planning Act 1963.

Prepare and manage planning applications for new and protected structures.

Analyse the Heritage Act 1995. Analyse the concepts of conservation in relation to the built environment & the landscape.
LO5
Evaluate the concepts of development planning for Ireland & the EU
