Module Aim: The aims of the subject are: 1. Health and Safety (a) To train the learners in the practice of safe manual handling and appreciation of ergonomic assessment so as to provide the students with a QQI Certificate. (b) To develop the learners’ knowledge of Hazard Identification and Risk Analysis related to the design and construction of a film set, stage production and similar situations. 2. To provide the student with awareness of the regulations and practical application of Rigging, Harness and Scaffoldings
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to:
LO1 Demonstrate and apply knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment in relation to the design, construction and maintenance of a film set, stage production and similar situations.
LO2 Have developed an awareness of identifying risks associated with Working at Height or operating Mobile Elevated Work Platforms.
LO3 Undertake Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment for a variety of design and construction activities related to the creating of a film set, stage production, etc. so as comply with the competencies required by the QQI Manual Handling and Ergonomic Certificate.
LO4 Have developed an awareness of identifying typical scaffolding installation
LO5 Have developed an awareness of types of and the erecting and dismantling of scaffolding
LO6 Explain the relevant parts of Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations

(a) Health and Safety Legislation, (b) Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment specific to film and theatre sets (c) roles and duties of the set/stage design, construction, management and maintenance team, (d) roles and duties of others in the greater production making team (e) roles and duties of the HSA (f) Personal health and safety
1.2 Manual Handling QQI Cert
(a) Manual handling and ergonomic assessment QQI training. Undertake self-assessment and assessment of partner for manual handling performance.
2.1 Basic Scaffolding Awareness
(a) Introduction, (b)Construction Site Safety Awareness, (c) Health and Safety Legislation, (d) Erecting/dismantling of scaffolding systems, (e) Tied Scaffold in Tubes & Fittings, (f) Propriety Systems Scaffold
2.2 Advanced Scaffolding Awareness
(a) Introduction, (b) Construction Site Safety, (c) Awareness, (d) Health and Safety Legislation,(e) Erecting/dismantling of tubing Fitting Scaffold,(f) Tied Scaffold in Tubes & Fittings, (g) Truss out Scaffolding, (h) Counter-lever Scaffold
2.3 Harness Awareness
(a) Work at height recognition, definitions & Regulations, (b) Hazard identification, collective & personal protection, (c) Safe work at height procedures (including fall factors), (d) Harness & restraint system awareness & fitting, (e) Inspection & record keeping – Harness, fall arrest lanyard, helmet, sling & connector (f) Use of fall arrest, work restraint (inertia reels, fall arrest lanyards)
