Teaching & Learning Strategies: A combination of methods to include lectures, discussions, work-based learning, blended learning, readings, self directed learning
Module Aim: The module aims to introduce students to relevant and contemporary debates relating to perspectives and discourses of youth. This will be situated with reference to three specific, albeit at points overlapping, areas: academic perspectives; media representations; policy discourses. Particular attention will be given to understanding the ways in which such perspectives have evolved and can be understood in relation to historical and social changes.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to:
LO1 Demonstate a familiarity with the ways in which young people are viewed and understood across different discourses/perspectives/forms of representation and the intersection between these areas/positions
LO2 Understand different theoretical perspectives on youth and young people
LO3 Be able to identify key policies that relate to young peoples lives
LO4 Be able to understand the role of the media in shaping societal understanding of youth
LO5 Develop critical skills for engaging with contemporary debates in research/theory and policy development/legislation
